Local Authority wasn’t created in a boardroom.
It was built in the real world, under pressure, when losing wasn’t an option.
In 2002, we bought our first business — a preschool.
On the day we closed, the director quit and took every single child with her to a home preschool she opened.
Overnight, we lost 100% of our income.
All of our customers.
And we were still responsible for payroll and a full lease.
There was no safety net.
The only job was simple: make the phone ring — fast.
We tried everything. Flyers. Newspaper ads. Local magazines.
Mostly silence.
Then in 2004, Google Local Business launched.
We created our first listing — and the phone rang.
That moment changed everything.
Our mission
Our mission is simple: make local businesses visible, profitable, and impossible to ignore — without agencies, ads, or bullshit.
From Survival to Mastery
By 2007, we were selling Google Ads at ReachLocal — knocking on doors and making over 100 cold calls a day.
At the same time, we were quietly helping local business owners set up Google Business profiles for free.
The results were impossible to ignore.
Their phones started ringing and it was was mostly from the Google profile, not ads!— sometimes more than they could handle.
In 2008, while recovering from a ruptured Achilles and stuck in bed, we built LocalMapAttack.com — one of the earliest fully over-optimized local ranking systems.
That project became a full-service agency.
Next came LocalSiteSubmit.com, a citation and media distribution platform that submitted businesses to hundreds of directories, video platforms, and press networks.
In 2015, the company was acquired by Advice Local to compete directly with Yext.
In 2018, we exited.
